Russ Herron Cat Rescue Fund
Colton Fund For Special Needs Animals
|
Paver Program | Volunteer | How You Can Help
Russ Herron, an admired and respected former member of the Central
Michigan University staff, was not only a poet and academician, but an
animal lover as well. Ross owned and raced horses and always had cats to
love. One of those cats, 12 year old Willy, died after valiant efforts
to save him by Russ's widow Pat were not successful. Every possible
method was attempted, including such alternative treatments such as
acupuncture, Reiki, holistic medicines, etc., but even after all those
heroic efforts, Willy died.
Willy's human family, The Herrons, wish to remember his loving
disposition, and have given a very generous donation to HATS to
establish the RUSS HERRON CAT RESCUE FUND. This fund is for cats and
kittens at the Isabella County animal shelter who need extensive medical
attention or alternative medicine, as Mrs. Herron explored. If you wish
to donate in Russ's or Willy's honor, please send your contributions to:

Those of you who have had memorable lives with cats, and who donate to
the Russ Herron Cat Rescue Fund will have their names inscribed on a
plaque at the shelter—a lasting symbol of their generosity and love for
our feline friends!
A poem by Russ Herron “Dave” from his book Post Parade, printed
with permission of the family…
Dave
Life has a way of chipping
Away at your heart:
Kids move away,
A parent dies, then a friend,
An old dog becomes a memory,
His yard path grown with grass.
And you think it's all made
You tougher until it's time for time
To take one more chip.
Dave sang all the way
To Charlie's on that
Last morning of his life.
I stroked his silky fur
One final time and hoped what
I was doing was for him, not me.
