We Help Companion Animals Get a Second Chance

The Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS) is a non-profit organization formed in 1999 by local citizens to help Isabella County companion animals and to increase the number of concerned and responsible animal owners through educational and adoption programs. Our objectives are met through our volunteers and with community support.

IMPORTANT: Please put identifying tags on your dogs or write your name and phone number on their collar with permanent marker. PLEASE help us return your pet to you by putting your contact information on his collar.

Wonderful Personality, Very Sweet Boy

Romi is a male/neutered black lab mix. He is housetrained and is used to being in a home. Summer, a HATS volunteer who walks the dogs said "Everytime I spend time with Romi I learn something new. At first I learned about his leash skills, then it was his response to basic commands that captured my attention, but today it was Romi's unique personality." He knows several basic commands such as sit, shake and lay. They are working on leave it and stay.

He is playful and is looking to be part of a family. He is in kennel #19 and is available for adoption.

If you are looking for a new addition to your family consider adopting an older dog. Most have had some training and many are house trained. They all appreciate having a second chance. See some happy stories from our adoptive families click here.

We have several kittens of all colors and ages. Please stop by the shelter and see the wonderful animals we have for adoption. If you have any questions you can call Isabella Animal Control at (989) 773-9721 or the HATS office at (989) 775-0830.

Please help others in your community who are in need by donating to your local food banks. Remember to include donations of dog and cat food too. By donating pet food you may be helping them to keep their pets and not release them to the animal shelters.

Complaint filed against Gratiot County Animal Control. An animal rights activist has filed a complaint with the Michigan Department of Agriculture alleging the Gratiot County Animal Shelter has been violating state and federal regulations. See the article from the June 20th Morning Sun. (click here).

IMPORTANT - Michigan Residents find out how you can help protect shelter animals and pets in Michigan -  A bill (H.B. 5263) has been introduced in the state legislature to ban pound seizure and Class B dealers. Pound seizure is the practice of releasing or selling unclaimed cats and dogs from animal shelters for use in biomedical research, product development and safety testing, and educational demonstrations. Contact your state representative and ask him/her to support the bill H.B. 5263. To find out who your representative is and how to contact them - click here.
