Volunteer Opportunities

HATS offers a variety of volunteer opportunities to suit various skill levels, ages, and personal interests.

Socialization & Care

Our most popular volunteer assignment consists of providing socialization and care for our canine and feline companions. This may include exercising dogs on our walking trail, one-on-one socialization time with a cat, and assisting staff with caring for our furry friends.

Feline Socialization shifts are scheduled on weekday afternoons between the hours of 1pm-4pm. Canine Socialization shifts are scheduled on weekdays between the hours of 9:30am-5pm and Saturday mornings.

Running Buddies

The Running Buddies program allows experienced volunteers to exercise alongside a canine companion. Volunteers may take one of our dogs to a local park to enjoy much-needed exercise and stress relief. This health-based program is mutually beneficial for dog and human! We welcome runners and walkers.

By exercising our dogs, you not only allow them to get a nice dose of fresh air but when potential adopters come to look at an animal, they will be more relaxed and well-behaved which allows for a greater chance of adoption.

Ready to run? Join our volunteer program today! To learn the basics and see volunteers in action, watch our Running Buddies video here.

Our Volunteam is an intensified, higher responsibility sector of our current volunteer program that allows regular volunteers who are super familiar with our facility to increase their impact by assisting staff members closely and taking on more responsibility in order to benefit the animals in our care.

Requirements:

  • Referral from a HATS staff member

  • Consistent day(s) committed during the week

  • Quality work on a regular basis

  • Willingness to take on cleaning and other tasks in addition to socializing

Reading Buddies

Looking to gain more confidence in front of an audience? Why not start in front of perhaps the most non-judgmental crowd? Reading Buddies offers just that. Read aloud to our residents! Children will gain some reading practice and our animals will enjoy some socialization time.

Reading Buddies shifts are scheduled on weekday afternoons between the hours of 1pm-5pm.

Rise and Shine

Early morning is a busy time when our staff is working diligently to clean, feed, and get ready for the day!

During Rise and Shine shifts, volunteers will assist staff with daily morning cleaning and care. This shift is extremely beneficial to our staff and saves us valuable time!

Tasks may include changing and washing litter pans, washing food dishes, changing bedding, laundry, mopping, and various other tasks.

Rise & Shine shifts are scheduled Monday-Saturday from 8am-10am.

Paws for Pics

In efforts to capture photographs and videos that showcase our residents’ personality, we are seeking photographers and videographers who are able to provide high-quality images and videos for our marketing content. Photo or video shoots may take place at our shelter or during special events.

If you own a professional camera or video equipment and are interested in volunteering your skills, please send a message to hats.mediarelations@gmail.com and include samples of your work or a link to your digital portfolio.
