We are asking new volunteers to help offset the cost of their training so that we can continue to provide the best quality of care for the animals. The one-time program fee will cover your orientation, training materials, and volunteer t-shirt. There is no value that can be placed on the rewards of being a volunteer and our small fee ensures that no money is being diverted from animal care.
All applicants will be scheduled for a one-hour volunteer orientation after submitting an application. You will have the opportunity to tour our facility and learn the skills necessary to be successful on your first day of volunteering!

Policies for Required Service Hours
Our volunteer program is a great opportunity for students needing hours for school, as well as adults needing service hours for work. Once a volunteer has been active for at least 3 months (minimum 4 hours per month) we are happy to verify hours. Please note, our minimum service requirement must be met before we will grant documentation for service hours to any volunteer.
Court-Ordered Community Service
HATS offers a court-ordered community service program to adults 18 and older. There is an application that must be filled out in person during regular business hours. Only offenders of non-violent crimes will be considered. Shifts are available on a limited basis Mon-Fri from 8am-11am (workers must commit to the entire shift). Please note, court papers will not be signed for completing volunteer shifts; we have separate community service shifts with different requirements and expectations.
If you have any questions regarding volunteering or community service, please contact our Community Involvement Coordinator at (989) 775-0830 ext. 6 or email .
