As we turn the calendar to 2026, we want to take a moment to look back at the incredible impact we made together last year. While the challenges of high capacity remain, your support has allowed the Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS) to remain a beacon of hope for pets in Isabella County and beyond.

December by the Numbers

December was a whirlwind of activity as we worked to get as many furry friends as possible into homes before the holidays.

  • Intakes: We welcomed 38 new animals into our care—15 dogs and 23 cats. While many were local strays or surrenders, we also stepped up to assist with a large-scale intake from Montcalm County.

  • Adoptions: A total of 51 pets found their forever families! This included an almost equal split of 25 dogs and 26 cats.

  • Reunions: We were thrilled to see 8 animals returned to their original owners, proving the vital importance of microchips and community reporting.

A Look Back at 2025

While we are still finalizing our full 2025 Impact Report, we have some preliminary milestones to share:

  • 896 animals entered our doors over the course of the year.

  • 153 pets were successfully reunited with their owners.

  • 643 animals were adopted into loving new homes.

Despite these successes, HATS continues to operate at high capacity. The volume of strays and surrenders in our county remains a significant challenge, but it only motivates us to work harder in the coming year.

Looking Ahead: Resolutions for Rescues

We are kicking off 2026 with a mission to find homes for our "long-termers"—those amazing dogs who have been overlooked despite their wonderful personalities.

Join us for our Resolutions for Rescues event from January 27th to February 7th. During this time, canine adoption fees will be reduced to $100. We have dogs of all sizes and temperaments waiting for their second chance.

Not Ready for a Full Commitment? Try Foster-to-Adopt!

If you’re unsure if a dog is the right fit for your kids, other pets, or lifestyle, our Foster-to-Adopt program is the perfect solution.

  • Trial Period: Take a dog home for 2–4 weeks to see how they settle in.

  • Full Support: You’ll have the backing of our Health Clinic for veterinary needs and guidance from our dedicated Foster Coordinator.

  • Confidence: Ensure it’s a perfect match before finalizing the adoption.
